Moose Beat NHTI 104-103 on Last-Second Layup by Rogers

AUGUSTA, ME – The University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team defeated New Hampshire Technical Institute on Senior Night Wednesday evening by a final score of 104-103 after Brandon Rogers made a put-back layup just before time expired.  Rogers finished with 36 points, 29 rebounds, and eight assists in the game.  Senior Garrett Alley finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in the contest.

The two teams battled back and forth for the entirety of the first half, as UMA battled back from an eight point deficit early to take the game into the locker room tied at 53-53.  Rogers and Keith Chesley each scored 19 first half points, and Alley added 10 points of his own in the half.

The second half was another close contest, with the Moose getting out to a six point lead, their largest of the game, just six minutes into the half.  NHTI would battle back however, and take a six point lead of their own with just 3:29 left in the game.  The Moose ended the game on a 9-2 run for the victory, capped off by Rogers' layup with less than one second remaining.

Rogers scored 17 of his 36 in the second half, while grabbing 14 of his 29 rebounds.  Taylor Wilbur added 14 points in the second to bring his game total to 17, and Caleb Mcguire scored 13 of his 15 total points in the second half.  All five Moose starters scored double-digit points in the victory, and each starter recorded multiple rebounds on the night.  Taylor Mannix chipped in two rebounds off the bench, while Richard Brown and Keith Priest each recorded assists in the game.

For NHTI, Yordy Tavares scored 29 points and Gabe Nichols added 21 points.  Jordan Lates netted 20 points off the bench for the visitors in the defeat.

The Moose will be back in action on Sunday, February 15, when they travel to Hampshire College.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
