The UMA women's tennis traveled north to play against the power house Husson women's tennis team on Wednesday 9/18 at the Bangor High School tennis courts. Husson women's tennis is always tough competition every year as Head Coach Josh Warren does a great job of fielding a competitive team year in and year out for the lady Eagles. A little short handed with only 5 players, the UMA women's team had to default the 3rd doubles spot, but had competitive matches at 1st doubles and 2nd doubles. The 1st doubles team of Allie Young and Hannah Roberts took on Husson's 1st doubles team of Julia Barber and Anah Albert. Off to a slow start, Allie and Hannah found themselves down early and then battled back to within 1 game of tying up the score before Julia and Anah pulled away to win the match 8-4.
In the singles matches which only was a format of playing 1 set to 6 games, Hayden Hoague took on Olivia Christensen at the 5th singles position. Hayden found a nice serving rhythm early in the match and was consistent in her ground strokes to be able to pull out a nice win for the Moose defeating her opponent 6-2. With Hayden's win at singles the Moose closed the gap 3-1 now against Husson.
Allie Young once again playing in the 2nd singles spot for UMA against Olivia Chandler from Husson, found herself in a competitive match that was back and forth. Allie got off to a comfortable 3-1 lead only to see that lead shrink and become closer. But once Allie was at 4-3, she found another level in her game and energy to make one last push to be able to win the match at 2nd singles for UMA defeating Chandler 6-4. Then playing in the 1st singles spot for UMA, it was Hannah Roberts versus Husson's Emily Doten. A very tight match for the whole set, Hannah found herself keeping it close the whole way down early 1-2, then 2-3, then 3-4, then 4-5. It was a great battle between these two fantastic tennis players, with long rallies and hustling for tough shots, in the end it was Emily Doten able to pull out the victory 6-4.
