UMA Moose Women's Soccer Battles to a No Scoring Draw with SMCC Seawolves

(Augusta, ME) On Thursday, October 3, the UMA Moose Women's Soccer Team faced off against the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Seawolves at Kennebec Savings Bank Field in Augusta. This highly anticipated YSCC match-up proved to be a fierce contest, culminating in a hard-fought 0-0 no scoring draw.

From the opening whistle, both teams displayed tenacity and determination, with the Seawolves leading in shots taken (25), with 17 of those on goal, while the Moose managed 9 shots, with 5 on target. The game was characterized by a high level of intensity and a relentless pursuit of scoring opportunities by both squads.

Vanessa Wharton, returning from injury, took the goalkeeping duties for the Moose, delivering an impressive high light reel performance. She recorded 17 saves, showcasing her skills and ability to shutdown the Seawolves' offensive attempts. On the other end, SMCC's goalkeepers Grayson Soldati and Aubrey Gilbert combined for 5 saves, effectively neutralizing the Moose's chances.

The match featured several key moments, including a yellow card issued to SMCC's Jordyn Hulsey in the second half, highlighting the physical nature of the game. Despite the best efforts from both sides, neither team could find the back of the net, resulting in a no scoring draw.

Notable performances included Leah Hill and Jadyn Eastman for SMCC, who each contributed significantly to their team's offensive push, while Elizabeth Reeves, Lena Mau, and Gabby Allen stood out for the Moose, attempting to create scoring chances throughout the match. The Moose defense also stood strong led by Sammy Thornton, Bubbles Madlokazi, Quinn Crommett, and Lia Brann while Skyla Dean helped control the middle field.

The Moose will play again Saturday, October 5 at Kennebec Savings Bank Field vs the Word of Life Huskies. Saturday is also senior recognition.
