MOOSE FORCE A DRAW WITH CCRI 2-2

UMA Moose Women's Soccer Battles to a 2-2 Draw Against CCRI

The UMA Moose women's soccer team faced off against the visiting CCRI on Saturday, September 28, at Kennebec Savings Bank Field at CASC in Augusta. From the start, the Moose showcased their offensive prowess, with Elizabeth Reeves finding the back of the net just 4:38 into the game, thanks to a well-placed assist from Gabby Allen.

However, the match took a turn just before the 23-minute mark when a hard collision occurred between Moose goalkeeper Vanessa Wharton and CCRI forward Margeory Giron-Reyes. Both players sustained injuries and were forced to leave the game, leading to Haley Guilmet stepping in as the new goalkeeper.

Despite the change in net, the Moose continued to battle, but CCRI started to mount their comeback. In the closing moments of the first half, Ariel O'Brien struck from outside the 18-yard box, leveling the score at 1-1 just before halftime.

The second half began with renewed energy from the Moose. Skyla Dean quickly made her mark, rocketing a shot into the back of the net to put the Moose ahead 2-1 early in the period. However, CCRI refused to back down and found their rhythm late in the game. Just in front of the six-yard box, Herlinda Guitirez capitalized on a loose ball, tying the game at 2-2.

In the final moments, the Moose pushed for a winning goal, with Lena Mau coming close by hitting the top crossbar. Despite their efforts, the game ended in a draw, reflecting the competitive spirit of both teams throughout the match.

The Moose displayed resilience and skill, holding their ground against a determined CCRI side. With the draw, the UMA Moose women's soccer team continues to build on their season, showcasing their potential as they look forward to their upcoming match vs the CMCC Mustangs on Tuesday, Oct 1 in Auburn, ME.
