UMA Women's Soccer Make History

UMA Women's Soccer Make History

(Augusta, ME) It had been more than a decade since the UMA Moose hit the pitch, so for the highly anticipated date of September 6, 2023 to finally arrive, the Women's soccer team knew regardless of the scoreboard, they had already captured a win. "This is an exciting time for all of us." said captain Gabby Allen. "Today we start to build on the future, and we get that." CMCC's head coach Rob Rodriguez also commented on the historic day, complimenting the Moose. "They have an excellent coach who put the time in to assemble her roster and she will coach them up well." Rodriguez also informed his players, "just because they are a startup program we are not to take them lightly." The Moose would prove these statements true by holding CMCC's top line to only 2 goals in the first half while getting a few good looks of their own on the Mustang's goalkeeper. The second half would start with the Moose threatening CMCC with several opportunities from inside the 18 and the corner, but the Mustangs would end the day with the victory.

At the end of a 3-0 loss, UMA head coach Sarah Ntifu spoke with the team, "I can not express how proud I am of everyone today. You all played so hard, beyond everyone's expectations, and we will continue to grow and get better."

The Moose were led offensively by Gabby Allen and defensively by Sammy Thornton, who was also recognized by Munzing Media as star of the game.

Congratulations to the all the ladies who helped make history and start a new chapter here at the University of Maine Augusta.

Next the Moose will travel for a long weekend on the road:
