Moose drop season opener to CMCC

AUGUSTA, Maine - The University of Augusta women's soccer team dropped a tough home opener Sunday, as the Moose fell to Central Maine Community College 6-1 in Yankee Small College Conference play. The loss drops the women's record to 0-1, while CMCC improves to 1-0.

Jenn Lola (Monmouth, Maine) scored the loan goal for UMA on a direct kick with just under ten minutes to play in regulation. Freshman goalkeeper Abby Peabody (Jefferson, Maine) played a stellar first collegiate game, recording 12 saves on the day.

CMCC's Amber Pritchard opened the scoring at 13:04, dropping a shot in the corner of the net on a pass from Gabrielle Ouellette. The Mustang's Mariah Larson followed that up less than two minutes later, scoring on a break-away goal. Maggie McConkey then scored back to back goals over the next ten minutes before Mikayla Hamilton scored the final goal of the first half, giving CMCC the 5-0 lead at half time.

First year head coach Roger Jack's team will take on the University of Maine at Machias Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
