UMA Men's Cross Country Finish Second Behind Thomas College

AUGUSTA, ME – The University of Maine at Augusta hosted their first home meet in program history on one of the most storied cross country courses in the state. The UMA cross country course used to be the site of the Maine high school state championships and is still the site of the Mountain Valley Championships each fall. The UMA 5K course has seen standout performances by some elite runners from Maine including Ben True and Matt Lane.

The UMA men's cross country team finished 2nd as a team behind Thomas College. The Moose were led by Sam Gerken who finished 5th overall thanks to a last-second kick to propel him ahead of Unity's Chris Milne. Gerken was followed by senior Dustin Simpson-Bragg who also finished in the top 10 in 8th place overall.

Sophomore Caleb Fortin got the opportunity to race again on the course that hosts the MVC Championship where he raced throughout high school for Winthrop. Senior Jake Cummings and Pierre Laot both saw improvement over week one performances at Vermont Tech and look forward to improving upon their 8K time on a flat and fast Bowdoin course.
