Larry Thornton comes to UMA after spending nearly twenty years coaching high school soccer here in Maine, the last nine seasons as the Girls' Varsity Soccer Coach at Buckfield Jr./Sr. HS in Buckfield, ME. While at BJSHS, the Lady Bucks compiled a record of 68-47-8 and appeared in the playoffs all nine years. During that time, 13 girls made the Class D Regional All-Star team and participated in the Maine Senior Bowl.
Originally from Brunswick, Maine, Coach Thornton graduated from Brunswick HS in 1986 and Keene State College in 1990 with a BS in Physical Education/Athletic Training. He works for Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (JMG) at Mountain Valley HS in Rumford and is a part-time Advanced EMT for Northstar EMS of Farmington.
Thornton states, “I’m looking forward to getting to know the team and the new incoming players and bringing my experiences and enthusiasm to UMA. My goal as the coach is to continue to grow the program and make UMA Women’s Soccer more and more competitive each day. Our work ethic during the season will be noticeable.”
