2014-2015 Moose Athletics

The 2014-2015 athletic season was monstrous for UMA athletics. Many teams made a positive impact and a two teams made National Tournament appearances. From community service to successful fundraising, the athletic programs are always making a positive effect here at the University of Maine at Augusta. Several programs give back to the community through food banks, with local grade school athletic teams, and other off campus activities, and are continually dedicated in the classroom.

Cross Country – Coached by Warren Newton

  • Women’s team made its first appearance at Nationals led by first year runners Salina Sawtelle and Tali Amero
  • Women’s team won the YSCC Sportsmanship award
  • Women’s team boasted a third place finish in the Vermont Tech Invitational in September to lead the YSCC
  • Anthony Guimond, Elise Bolduc, and Tali Amero received YSCC Academic All-American awards recognizing a 3.25 GPA or better

Golf Team – Coached by Tristan Starbird and Cameron Ray

  • Fourth consecutive National Tournament appearance led by Senior Jake Roddy and Freshman Bobby Greig
  • Recognized for the YSCC Sportsmanship award
  • Jake Roddy and India Pickett were nominated for the YSCC Academic All American award
  • Jake Roddy was named USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year.  This award is based on community involvement, academics, and athletic ability.  This is an incredible honor as hundreds of student-athletes all over the Nation are taken into consideration

Men’s Basketball – Coached by Jim Ford, Warren Newton, and Corey Harris

  • Made the YSCC Elite Eight Tournament for the second time in four years - went into the tournament as the 7th seed
  • Junior forward Brandon Rogers received USCAA National First Team All-American, YSCC 1st team All-Conference, and was nominated as the USCAA National Player of the Week three times.  Rogers also finished 1st in the USCAA DII in rebounds per game for the second year in a row
  • Junior Keith Chesley received the both USCAA and YSCC player of the week and was voted second team USCAA All-American and YSCC All-Conference.  Chesley was selected as USCAA National Student-Athlete of the year. Keith Chesley broke the single season scoring record at UMA set in 1984 when he reached 674 points.   In December Keith Chesley broke his 1,000th career point at Unity College.  Keith Chelsley was a USCAA Academic All-American
  • Rogers and Chesley ranked first and second in the YSCC in rebounds per game
  • The team earned the YSCC sportsmanship award

Women’s Basketball – Coached by Jennifer Laney, Laurie Ficker, and Corey Harris

  • Team made it to the semi final game of the YSCC elite eight
  • Jamie Plummer was voted YSCC Player of the Year.  She was also the fifth UMA women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points, and did so in just two season of play.  Plummer was also selected as a USCAA Academic All-American.  She finished first in the YSCC in points per game at 20.7.  She also finished third in rebounds per game at 11
  • Head coach Jennifer Laney earned YSCC Coach of the Year
  • Both Jamie Plummer and Carmen Bragg were named YSCC and USCAA Player of the Week numerous times
  • Carmen Bragg finished first in the YSCC in 3pt shooting percentage and was 12th in scoring per game

Bowling – Coached by Warren Newton

  • UMA hosted this year's YSCC Championship bowling match
  • Both Augusta and Bangor campuses had bowling teams this year
  • Two teams participated in the YSCC Championship bowling match
