UMA competes in Maine State Cross Country Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – UMA cross country ran in the Maine State Cross Country Championship this past weekend bringing two full scoring teams for the first time in program history to this event.

The men’s 8K race kicked off the state championship meet with the Moose being led by sophomore Sam Gerken in 32:16 followed closely by teammate Dustin Simpson-Bragg in 32:27. Sophomore Walker Thomas ran to an impressive season PR of 34:57.

On the women’s side Carmen Bragg led the charge for the Moose running 23:01 and closing in on running in the 22-minute range for the 5K. The lady Moose were able to team score besting Thomas College and UMPI at the state championship. Caitlin LaFountain, Emily Billings, and Sophie Del Valle also all ran to personal bests for the season resulting in a team average time of 25 minutes.

The Moose are excited as they head to the YSCC Cross Country Championship on October 21st at Hampshire College.
