Moose Rally Falls Short Against Machias

AUGUSTA, ME – The University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team lost Wednesday evening by a final score of 93-84 to the University of Maine at Machias.  Brandon Rogers scored 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in the defeat.

In the first half, the two teams battled back and forth for the first 10 minutes of play, before the University of Maine at Machias took the lead.  Riding the hot hand of Antwan Ruise, the Clippers took a 40-30 lead into the locker room.  Rogers had 11 first half points and nine first half boards, while Caleb Mcguire netted 10 points in the half for the Moose.

In the second half, UMA would not go away as they would close the gap each time UMM tried to seal the game.  The Moose would end up outscoring the Clippers in the final stanza, however the comeback attempt fell short.  Keith Chesley led the Moose with 18 second half points, while Taylor Wilbur chipped in 16 points in the half and Rogers tallied 12 of his own.

For the game, Chesley finished with 24 points, while Wilber finished with 19 and McGuire with 18.  Chesley also pulled in nine rebounds in the defeat.

For the Clippers, Ruise led all scorers with 37 points, while Floyd Higgins had 14 rebounds in the victory. Dreu Johnson dished out eight assists to lead the team.

The Moose will be back in action Friday, February 6, when the take on Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Maine.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
