Moose Fall in Shootout at CMCC

AUBURN, ME – The University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team dropped a divisional match-up Thursday evening to Central Maine Community College by a final score of 100-95.  Three Moose players tallied more than 24 points in the defeat.

It was a back-and-forth game throughout the first half, with UMA holding the lead for the first 13 minutes of the game before relinquishing it on back-to-back lay-ups by the Mustangs.  The Moose would battle back to tie the game, however, after Richard Brown grabbed his own rebound on a missed free throw to lay it in an even the score at 36-36.  CMCC bounced back, though, and took a 53-48 lead into the halftime break.

Brandon Rogers had 17 points and 16 rebounds in the first half, and Keith Chesley added 12 points of his own.  Taylor Wilbur scored 11 in the half while also recording two steals.

In the second half, neither team could pull away from one another, ending the game with the same five-point margin that they began the half with.  Wilbur netted 17 second-half points to bring his game total to 28, while Chesley and Rogers each scored 12 points in the half.

Rogers finished with 29 points and 28 rebounds, Chesley added 24 points and nine rebounds, and Caleb McGuire added seven points.  Garrett Alley pulled in six rebounds for the Moose, while Brown finished with five points and nine rebounds off the bench.  Taylor Mannix and Keith Priest each added one rebound for the Moose on the day.

Central Maine Community College saw four different players score double-digit points, led by Carrington Miller, who finished with 22.  Miller also grabbed 14 rebounds for the Mustangs.

UMA is back in action on January 30, when they travel to Hampshire College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
