CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered a 67-60 loss to the #2-seeded Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta in the semifinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament on Saturday, Mar. 2.

Prior to tip-off, the all-conference team was announced. Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) and junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) both landed on first team.

SMCC won the first quarter 19-16, but was limited to just four points in the second. Alike the first half, the teams traded quarters in the second. UMA converted 63.6 percent from the field in the fourth to solidify a 7-point win.

Both Andrews and senior co-captain Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine) finished in double figures with 16 and 13 respectively. Andrews pulled down eight rebounds and York grabbed four steals.

Moose point guard and YSCC Player of the Year Alisyn Alley played all 40 minutes to score 32 points on 8-14 shooting and 16-17 from the line.

The Moose eventually lost 59-52 to the #1-seeded Mustangs from Central Maine Community College in the championship game on Sunday, Mar. 3.

The Seawolves earned an at-large bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament as the #8 seed to play #9-seeded Five Towns College. SMCC will continue its season in Richmond, Virginia on Sunday, Mar. 10 at 11:00 a.m. More scheduling details will follow!
