Women's Basketball sweeps YSCC weekend

Concord, NH - The Mustangs traveled to NHTI last weekend to participate in the Yankee Conference Tournament. CM, the winner of the last 6 YSCC Tournament Championships and 7 straight YSCC Regular Season Championships, entered at the #1 seed.

Semifinals - vs. #5 Vermont State Randolph

In their first game in two weeks, the Mustangs looked relatively sluggish throughout. However, they had more than enough horsepower to lead start to finish, slaying the Knights 79-53.

Four Mustangs scored in double-figures. Ella Lavigne led the way with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 steals. Rosa Prieto and Molly Corbett each finished with 11 points, while Jolien Defoort scored 10.

Arna Ámundadóttir led the Knights with 16 points and 5 rebounds.

The Mustangs out-rebounded the Knights by +25, and only allowed 3 foul shots.

With the win the Mustangs improved to 26-1 overall and advanced to the YSCC Championship against the Moose of UMA.

Championship - vs. #2 UMaine Augusta

Despite significant foul trouble, the Mustangs never trailed in their 59-52 victory over the Moose.

Three Mustangs scored in double-figures. Destiny Mora Lopez recorded a dominant double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Rosa Prieto hit for 14 points, and Ella Lavigne recorded 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The hot shooting of Alizabeth Dumont kept the Moose somewhat close. Dumont was a perfect 5-5 from three, and finished with 20 points. The Mustangs out-rebounded the Moose by +11 and held them to just 30% shooting from the floor.

With the win the Mustangs improved to 27-1 overall, collected their 7th straight YSCC Tournament Championship, and earned the YSCC automatic bid to the USCAA National Tournament in Virginia.

Comments from Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, "Our players know that they are probably sacrificing individual accolades to win championships at CM - and this year was just another example of that. These women play for each other and represent our program, college, and state with total class. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments thus far and are excited to head to Virginia to continue our season together."
