Moose End Mustangs 56 Conference Game YSCC Winning Streak

AUGUSTA, ME – UMA women's basketball put an end to CMCC's 56-game conference winning streak Tuesday night in the Augusta Civic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Moose got out to an early, although small lead and controlled the tempo of the game in the first few minutes. Madeline Suhr started the Moose off on the right foot with a big defensive rebound followed by two quick layups putting the UMA up 4-0 in the first minute. The Mustangs were able to briefly tie it up in 6-6 but the Moose responded quickly and closed out the first quarter up 12-8.

The 2nd quarter was much closer with several lead changes with the Moose heading into the locker room up 24-23 off of two clutch free throws from Sydney Leblanc.

CMCC came out of the second half and went on a 9-0 run but then momentum shifted. The Moose answered with a quick five points coming from Kaeti Butterfield and Hope Butler on a layup and three free throws. A momentum changing block by Madeline Suhr followed by back to back layups put the Moose back in the lead 35-33.

The back and forth ensued through the rest of the 3rd and 4th quarter and was a 1-point game with just under 2 minutes remaining. Hope Butler hit a jumper to put the Moose up 54-51 with a minute remaining and the Moose remained composed with Butler and Leblanc both hitting their pair of free throws to hand CMCC their first conference loss in 56 games.

There were 9 lead changes throughout the contest with the Moose outshooting the Mustangs from both the field and from behind the arch. UMA outrebounded CMCC 57-49.
