Moose Win with Last Second Three

Moose Win with Last Second Three

AUGUSTA, MAINE – The UMA women's basketball program hosted Senior Night on February 7th, 2019 where they faced off against the NHTI Lynx.  This is the 7th year that the Lynx have graciously participated in the Moose senior night festivities.  The Moose honored Caitlin LaFountain as their sole senior.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Moose came out swinging; connecting on their first 5 three point attempts in the first quarter.  However, NHTI seemed to have their own answers to each Moose point as they found themselves up 25-21 after the first quarter.  It was a team effort by the Moose to combat their four point deficit leading into the second quarter.  The Moose found scoring answers from five players to bring the game to 37 all at halftime.  NHTI jumped out of halftime with sharp shooting; as the Moose struggled, their free throw shooting kept them neck and neck through the most of the third quarter.  Sidney Moore connected for 6 free throws in the third quarter alone.  Heading into the last ten minutes of the game, the Moose found themselves down by three points.  Sophomore speed racer, Emily Billings took over in the forth, slashing to the basket and connecting for 8 points.  It was NHTI however, that found themselves ahead by one point with less than 30 seconds left.  The Moose strategically fouled to put NHTI at the line for two.  NHTI's high scorer of the game, Olivia Langevin went one for two at the line and gave NHTI the two point lead with just 13 seconds to go.  After a Moose full timeout, Coach Alex Stern's Moose took back to the floor for their last play of the game.  A double team on Sidney Moore allowed for an uncontested three at the top of the key for Sanborn; putting the Moose up by 1 with 3.9 seconds left in the game.  UMA went on to win by one point on senior night.  The UMA women's program has gone undefeated on senior night for the last 10 years.

NOTES OF THE GAME
