Seawolves Slip Past Moose In Final Moments

SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – UMA traveled to SMMC to face the Seawolves, 14-2 (10-1) Wednesday night in a tough YSCC matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Moose got off to a slow start going down by 9 in the opening minutes before the Moose got on the board after a jumper from Sydney Lablanc. In the first meeting of these two teams this season the Seawolves were dominate from the start however this was not the case in their second contest of the season with the Moose staying within striking distance ending the first quarter down by one 15-16. SMCC opened up a larger lead during the second quarter going up 41-39 but the Moose rallied to close the gap through the 3rd quarter pulling within 2 points after Emily Billings hit both of her free throws to end the 3rd down 51-53.  

It remained a close game throughout the 4th quarter with the Moose fighting to the final possessions of the game down by 3 with 18 seconds left. SMCC was fouled and would put the game away off the final free throws made by Amanda Brett.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Moose shot 45.6% from the floor (4-14), 28.6% from three-point land and 56.5% at the charity stripe with 34 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals, 2 blocks and forced 14 turnovers.
  • Sidney Moore led the Moose in points with 16 while also notching 7 assists
  • Catherine Sanborn had 15 points going 5-8
  • Kate Stevens had 11 points and 9 rebounds
