Caitlin LaFountain Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone

AUGUSTA, ME - It was a special night for the University of Maine-Augusta (10-2) women's basketball team as Caitlin LaFountain etches her name in the history books and the Moose hand the Unity College Rams (1-5) a lopsided 118-15 defeat at the Augusta Civic Center.

LaFountain entered the night 19 points away from scoring 1,000 points in her career with the Moose and it took her less than a quarter to reach the milestone.

The Moose rebounded off of Sunday's non-conference loss to Bates College by jumping all over the Rams, jumping out to 19-0 run to start the game with LaFountain accounting for 15 of 19 points at the 4:30 mark of the first quarter.

LaFountain, who leads the Yankee Small College Conference in scoring (20.2 points/game) and is second in rebounding (13.5 rebounds/game), reached the thousand point mark by making her home in the paint and that's exactly where she could be found for points 999 and 1,000 with a chance for one more at the free-throw line.

The junior forward finished the night with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Rams didn't have an answer for the Moose attack at either end of the court, even with its leading scorer and rebounder on the bench for most of the second quarter. Catherine Sanborn knocked down three baseline jump shots in the last five minutes and Carmen Bragg started heating up from three-point range to give the Moose a 63-9 halftime lead.

The Moose charged out of the third quarter by hitting three-pointers on five consecutive possessions with Bragg leading the way with 16 points in the quarter, including hitting her first three shots from behind the arc.

Bragg finished with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Seven Moose players in total finished with 10-plus points including Bragg, LaFountain, Sidney Moore (14), Dominique Lewis (14), Kate Stevens (17), Kylie Kemp (10), and Catherine Sanborn (12).

Cyndle Turcotte scored 13 of 15 Unity's points and added 5 rebounds.
