Caitlin LaFountain named to YSCC First team

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The Yankee Small College Conference hosted their annual awards banquet Friday afternoon where it was announced that Caitlin LaFountain was named to the YSCC first team.

Caitlin LaFountain had a standout freshman season as a Moose netting 455 points last year earning her being named to the YSCC second team as well an honorable mention All American (YSCAA).

This year Caitlin faced adversity early on dealing with an injury that would keep her out for 3 full games and require her to reduce her playing time when she did return to the court. Caitlin was able to demonstrate that she continues to develop as a player netting 294 points in half the minutes from the previous season while increasing her field goal percentage (47.5%) and her free throw percentage (70.6%) up from last year.

In half the playing time this year she nearly matched last years assists (49) and even increased her blocks this year (22).

LaFountain's defensive play was also on this rise this year pulling down 174 total rebounds with 117 defensive.

After only 2 seasons with the Moose Caitlin has become a standout leader. UMA will look to LaFountain to continue to bring the intensity and focus she consistently brings to the court in the coming season. She has already committed to running for UMA's Cross Country team next year which should have her going into the 2017/18 basketball season in shape to have another standout year.

Caitlin has continued to excel academically making the Dean's List here at UMA with a focus in Liberal Studies.
