Moose and Seawolves clash in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – The 8th ranked UMA women's basketball team traveled to southern Maine to take on SMCC who sit atop the USCAA National basketball rankings.

These two teams met early on in the season and the Moose were hungry for another shot at the Seawolves and continue the momentum they have built on throughout the season.

Although the Seawolves caught fire early on in the first, they struggled to open up a solid lead thanks to Caitlin LaFountain netting 10 points in the first quarter alone. The Seawolves went up by as much as 9 in the first half of play but the Moose continued to battle on defense and LaFountain contributed another 9 in the second quarter leaving the Moose down going into the half 30-32.
The Moose continued to outpace the Seawolves in the 3rd 18-10 with a last second 3 pointer from Lindsay Clark to put the Moose up 48-41 going into the last quarter.
 
The 4th quarter opened up with multiple steals and strong defensive play from both sides. With 3:27 remaining in play Alicia Ruth and Jennifer Conrad both netted 3's for the Seawolves putting them up 55-50. The Moose answered back with layup and free throw but ran out of time to retake the lead.
 
Caitlin LaFountain ended the game with 25 points and 14 rebounds followed by Jamie Plummer with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Moose will be back in regular season action on Saturday, January 28th at Hampshire College.
