Chesley commits to UMA women's basketball

AUGUSTA, Maine - Hunter Chesley has committed to the University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team for the fall of 2016.

Chesley, who will graduate from Lawrence High School in May, follows in the footsteps of her father Greg and older brother Keith, both of whom played basketball for the Moose. Her dad, Greg, graduated as a 1,000-scorer, and Keith is currently a senior who will graduate in May, and leaves as the all-time leading scorer in UMA history.

It was her family's legacy and the sense of community that Hunter has experienced, that helped guide her to the decision to continue her athletic and academic career with the Moose.

"I chose UMA because my father and brother went here and I am familiar with the campus and the faculty," Chesley said. "I enjoy the welcoming environment and I am looking forward to furthering my academic and athletic career."

Chesley, who plans to major in Mental Health and Human Services, played both basketball and field hockey at Lawrence High School, and will fit well into a very experienced women's basketball team who returns four of five starters from the most successful season in program history.

"Hunter brings a lot of energy to the table and we look forward to her addition as a part of our basketball family," Coach Laney said. "Her athleticism will be a tremendous asset to our team."

Chesley was a member of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference All-Academic team as both a basketball and field hockey player, and was a part of the Lawrence Girls Basketball team which won the KVAC Championship in February.
