Women's basketball advances to championship on Sunday

AUBURN, Maine - The second-seeded University of Maine at Augusta Moose will face off against regular season champions and number one seed College of Saint Joseph's (Vermont) Sunday afternoon after knocking off the third seed, Central Maine Community College, 72-49, Saturday afternoon in the second round of the Yankee Small College Conference Elite Eight Tournament hosted by Central Maine Community College. 

A 21-point second quarter helped UMA survive a strong second half push from the Mustangs. The Moose, leading 11-7 after the first period of play, erupted for 21 points in the second quarter using a very balanced attack and led by seven points from Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) who finished with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds. Plummer was 7-14 from the field for the game and a perfect six for six from the charity stripe. Plummer also netted four blocks for the Moose. 

CMCC battled back in the second half, scoring 19 points in the third quarter led by seven points on a a pair of three-pointers from Allie Ablondi (Thompson, Conn.). The Mustangs were led by a double-double performance from Alex Rowe (South Paris, Maine), who scored a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

Sophomore Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) turned in one of her best performances of the season for UMA, with 18 points, including a 4-8 performance from behind the arc. Teammate Darby Toth (North Port, Fla.) was also in double-digits with 15 points and a perfect five-for-five day at the line while dishing out six assists. 

UMA's Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) scored 12 points for her team and netted nine boards to go along with a pair of blocks.

The Moose will face off against the defending champion Saints on Sunday afternoon at noon, marking UMA's second appearance in the YSCC Championship game in the last two years. The game is available with livestreaming at the following link:
