UMA advances to semi-finals with big win over GBCC

AUBURN, Maine - The University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team rolled to a 75-20 victory over Great Bay Community College 75-20 Thursday night in the first round of the Yankee Small College Conference Elite Eight Championships hosted by CMCC. The second-seeded Moose advance to play the third seed, CMCC on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated Hampshire earlier in the evening to advance to the semis.

All seven players scored for UMA, led by junior Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) who scored 15 points and recorded a season-high 19 rebounds in the win. Sophomore Morgan Card (Ellsworth, Maine) also turned in a double-double performance with 14 points and ten boards. Sophomore Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) scored 14 points including four three-pointers while grabbing six rebounds and four steals and freshman Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) scored nine points to go with 12 rebounds and four steals. 

Nichole Marrero (Dover, N.H.) was the high-scorer for the Herons with ten points and 13 rebounds while Anne's Cummer (Milton, N.H.) scored six points and dished out a pair of assists for Great Bay, who posted seven wins and made the playoffs in only their first season as a varsity program. 

Saturday's game between the Mustangs and the Moose will be the third meeting between the two teams this season. UMA won both of the regular season contests, taking the first game by six points and winning the second game by one point.
