Women stay undefeated in the conference with win over SMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - The University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team held on for a crucial conference win Wednesday night, defeating Southern Maine Community College 66-52 in Yankee Small College Conference action. With the victory, the Moose improve to an impressive 9-0 in conference play and 16-6 overall, sitting in first place in the YSCC East Division above both CMCC and SMCC, who are both 7-4 in conference play. The win gives the Moose two victories over SMCC in regular season play.

Junior Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) and Morgan Card (Ellsworth, Maine) both turned in double-double performances for head coach Jennifer Laney's team, with Plummer securing game-highs with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Card netted 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Caitlin Lafountain (Topsham, Maine) and Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) both scored 12 points on the evening in the victory. 

Senior Darby Toth (North Port, Fla.), who just scored her 1,000th point for the Moose, was 4-5 from the floor for 10 points while dishing out six assists. The Moose dominated the boards for the night, out rebounding the Seawolves 45-34 while also out-shooting SMCC from the floor with a 42.6% percentage to just 29.8% for the Seawolves. 

UMA returns to action over the weekend when the team looks to remain undefeated in conference action, taking on Vermont Tech at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
