Women’s Basketball opens January with win

CONCORD, N.H. - The University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team opened the second half of the season with a 68-53 victory over Massasoit Community College in the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year's Women's Classic. All five starters were in double-digits for the Moose, who improved to 13-5 on the season.

UMA used a 27 point second quarter to carry them to the non-conference victory in a game where the Moose never trailed. Senior Darby Toth (North Port, Fla.) led UMA with 14 points and six assists including four three-pointers, while Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) scored 13, Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) and Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) each netted 12 points and Morgan Card (Ellsworth, Maine) scored ten points.

The Moose out-rebounded Massasoit 52-35, led by Plummer with 18 boards and Card with ten rebounds, which led to 15 second-chance points compared to six for the opponents. UMA shot only 33.8% from the field on the night, and 36.4% from behind the arc. Massasoit was led by Tatiana Dias who scored a game-high 28 points. 

UMA returns to action on January 18th when the team travels to Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
