Women’s basketball falls to DIII Wheaton College

NORTON, Mass. - Jamie Plummer scored a game-high 26 points and Darby Toth added 17 more, but it wasn't enough as the University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team fell to NCAA DIII Wheaton College73-58, Thursday night in non-conference action.

The loss drops the Moose to 10-4 on the season, while the Lyons improve to 4-2 and remain undefeated at 3-0 on their home court. 

Plummer (Richmond, Maine) was 11-20 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds and picking up a pair of blocks and four steals. Toth (North Port, Fla.) shot 7-15 from the floor for the night and dished out four assists to go along with a pair of blocks as well. 

Wheaton took the lead early in the first quarter with a quick Shoemaker layup. The Lyons held the lead throughout the entire quarter, going up by as many as eight with 5:31 remaining on a Rebecca Arnone three-pointer. 

Plummer knotted the game at 25-25 in the second quarter, before giving the Moose their first lead moments later with a layup. The quarter was tied three more times before Abby Hamilton gave the lead back to Wheaton with back-to-back successful free-throws right before halftime. 

The Moose trailed by only two at halftime, but Wheaton used a 24 point third quarter to help pull away for good. UMA made the most of the Wheaton turnovers on the night, netting 19 points on 9 turnovers from the Lyons. Both teams were perfect from the free-throw line, with UMA going 3-3. The Lyons held the slight edge in field goal percentage, shooting 42.2% to 40.3% for UMA.

The Moose return to action at home on Monday night when the team hosts Unity at 5:30 on Faculty Appreciation night.
