Lady Moose score 90 points in first win of the season

CONCORD, N.H. - The University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team turned up the offense Saturday afternoon, defeating Bunker Hill Community College 90-59 in the first round of the Edward Jones Women's Tap-Off Classic hosted by NHTI.

All five starters netted double digits for the Moose (1-1), led by senior Darby Toth (Northport, Fla.) who scored a game-high 22 points while dishing out seven assists. Bunker Hill (0-1) was led by Chuckearah, who scored 19 points on the afternoon. This is the most points UMA has scored since dropping 96 points against Penn College in 2013. 

UMA got out to a quick start, out-scoring the Bulldogs 22-8 in the first quarter, led by junior Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine), who scored seven points in just nine minutes, while sophomore Morgan Card (Ellsworth, Maine) contributed six points in the opening quarter. 

The Bulldogs rallied for 16 points in the third quarter and 23 in the third, but the Moose finished with a 25-12 run in the fourth quarter to close out the win, led by 14 points from Toth, who was 5-6 from the floor and 3-3 from behind the arc in the quarter. 

The Lady Moose shot a red-hot 56.9% from the floor and 56.3% on 9-16 shooting from the three-point line. Card scored 18 points for UMA, while sophomore Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) scored 16 points with five assists and six rebounds. Plummer netted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with six assists, and freshman Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) scored 10 points on the day. 

UMA returns to action on Sunday when the team takes on Quinsigamond Community College in the second round of the Tap-Off Classic at 11:00 a.m. Both the men's and women's teams open the conference season action on Thursday, November 12 at the Augusta Civic Center.
