Lola hits 1,000 points as women down Machias


AUGUSTA, Maine - University of Maine at Augusta junior Jennifer Lola (Monmouth, Maine) became the third UMA women's basketball player in the last three seasons to hit the 1,000 milestone, as the Moose defeated the University of Maine Machias, 82-60 Wednesday night in Yankee Small College Conference Action. With the win, UMA improved to 5-6 on the season and 3-3 in the YSCC, while Machias fell to 2-8 and 2-4 in the conference.

Lola, who ranks fifth in the YSCC in three point field goal percentage, hit the plateau in style, knocking down a triple with 6:39 remaining in the first half, on her way to scoring 20 points for the night.

The Lady Clippers jumped out to the early 6-1 lead in this game, but the Lady Moose responded with a 10-0 run, highlighted by five points by freshman Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine). The 6'1 forward tied for a game-high rebounds while scoring 19 points for head coach Jennifer Laney's team. Plummer is averaging double-double figures on the season (15.6 ppg and 12.9 rpg).

The Clippers again tied the game at 14 all on a layup from Emma Legallais (Corwall, Ontario) with 11:32 remaining in the first, but Plummer responded by scoring six of the next eight points for UMA, and the Moose would never look back.

Sophomore Arrenote Lee (San Antonio, Tex.) led all scores with 29 points while grabbing 13 rebounds, and Courtney Jicks (Lake Charles, La.) joined both Lee and Plummer with a double-double of her own, with 12 points and 11 boards.

Sophomore Vanessa Patterson (Perry, Maine) led Machias with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while teammates Kristi Wright (Lubec, Maine) and LeGallais scored 18 and 12 points, respectively.

Game notes: The Moose out-rebounded Machias 59-48 while shooting 36 percent from the field for the game. Next up, UMA travels to Concord, New Hampshire to take on NHTI in conference play.
