Moose women's basketball team falls to Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Norwich University and Bridgewater State University have advanced to the championship game of the 2013 Ed Hockenbury Classic following wins in the opening round on Friday evening. Norwich defeated the University of Maine-Augusta 72-55 in the first game, while Bridgewater defeated Bates College 82-65 in the nightcap.

Norwich and Bridgewater State will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, immediately following the 1:00 p.m. consolation game featuring UMA and Bates.

Junior Jennifer Lola (Monmouth, Maine) paced the Moose with a game-high 24 points, leaving her just 24 points shy of the 1,000 point plateau. Arreonte Lee (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in with 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists.

With the win, the Cadets improve to 4-3 overall, while the loss drops the Moose to 4-5. 

The Cadets were paced by juniors Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.), who both contributed 12 points and six assists. Freshman Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) added nine points and nine rebounds, while senior Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.) posted a game-high 10 rebounds.

Norwich opened the game with a 12-0 run and would never trail. The hosts shot 50 percent (19-38) from the floor in the first half to power their way to a 42-24 halftime lead.

The Cadets capitalized on UMA's 19 team turnovers to score 20 points, while the Moose scored seven points off Norwich's 15 turnovers. Norwich also outperformed UMA in the paint, 34-24.
