Lady Moose steal a win at Machias

Machias, MAINE -The University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team overcame a 38-37 halftime deficit Saturday to defeat Yankee Small College Conference oponent U Maine Machias 79-73 to advance to a 2-0 start on the season.

True Freshman Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) accounted for 24 points and 8 rebounds in a dominating performance. Sophomore Arreonte Lee (San Antonio, Texas) nailed a well-timed 3-pointer with just over 2 minutes to go to help secure the win. The Moose shot nearly 50% from the field in the second half. UMA held to a slim lead late in the game, and sealed the victory with two clutch free throws by Erika St. Pierre (Farmingdale, Maine) with seconds left in regulation.

Led by Plummer's 24 points, the contribution was spread all over the team. Jen Lola (Monmouth, Maine) recorded 16 points, Lee 12, Courtney Jicks (Lake Chalres, La.) scored nine , St. Pierre 9, and Christina Peaslee (Whitefield, Maine) contributed six points. Lee and Lola both displayed double-double figures.

Machias had four players in double figures led by their speedy guard Emma LeGallais, who tallied 19 points.

Coach Laney was thrilled with the win last night saying, "We pulled together to grind out this victory through a high intensity game. Our bench really stepped up for us to combine for a great team performance."

Next up the Lady Moose travel to Albany, New York to compete in a two-day tournament at Albany Pharmacy on November 16-17.
