Women's basketball opens season with a victory

The University of Maine at Augusta Lady Moose opened the season on the road Monday night with a thrilling 72-66 victory Monday night against Eastern Maine Community College in Yankee Small College Conference action.

UMA Freshman Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) led all scores with 31 points, while sophomore Arreonte Lee (San Antonio, Texas) scored 23 on the night. Junior Jennifer Lola (Monmouth, Maine) was also in double digits, with 16 points.

Eastern Maine showed an effective motion offense in the first half, opening up drives to the lane and kick outs to open three's. The Lady Moose trailed at halftime 26-24..

At halftime UMA Head Coach Jennifer Laney adjusted to a full court man-to-man defense that caused problems for the Eagles. The press gave the Moose just what they needed to grind out a crucial conference women to start the season.

Coach Laney looking forward– "There were obviously the first game jitters, and we will keep improving to get better each game."

The Women's Team will look to improve to a 2-0 start on Saturday as they travel to the University of Maine at Machias in YSCC play; tipoff starts at 1:00 P.M.
