Moose fall to Thomas in last minute

WATERVILLE, ME- The University of Maine at Augusta (2-3) women's basketball team closed to within six points with 1:06 remaining in the game, but couldn't quite close the gap as Thomas College (1-0) pulled away for the 64-53 win Friday night.

The Lady Moose had three players in double digits, led once again by Freshman Areeonte Lee (San Antonio, Tex) who netted a team high with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Coreinne Dingley scored 11 points while Haley Madore was 6-9 from the floor for ten points.

Thomas (1-0) led wire to wire in a season-opening 64-53 victory against University of Maine (2-3) at Augusta Friday night. Freshman Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) had a double- double with a game high 22 points and 15 rebounds in her collegiate debut for the Terriers.

In a slow first half - where both teams combined for 17 turnovers and a mere 23.5% from the hardwood, Thomas was able to take a nine point lead going in to intermission 29-20. Pelletier would have a first half high 11 points, while Arreonte Lee (San Antonio, Tex.) had eight rebounds for the away side.

Both sides would pick up the pace in the second half, with Thomas outscoring the Moose by a 35-33 margin. UMA got within six points in the later stages of the second half, but Thomas was able to pull away in the final minutes with clutch free throw shooting.

UMA returns to YSCC conference play on Sunday afternoon when they host the College of St. Joe's at the Civic Center at 12:00 pm.
