Basketball teams collect six awards at banquet

AUBURN, Maine - The University of Maine at Augusta men's and women's basketball teams wore out a path to the podium on Friday afternoon, as the two teams collected six awards at the annual Yankee Small College Conference Banquet hosted by Central Maine Community College.

For the second year in a row a UMA player collected the highest honor, as senior standout Brandon Rogers (Turlock, Calif.) was named Player of the Year. Last season, junior Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) took home the honor on the women's side.

Also recognized for his outstanding senior year was Keith Chesley (Clinton, Maine) was was named to the YSCC First -Team All Conference. As a team, the Moose received the 2015-16 conference Sportsmanship Award.

On the women's side Plummer received All-Conference honors for the third season in a row, earning a spot on the YSCC First-Team All Conference along with senior Darby Toth (North Port, Fla.). Freshman Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) was named to the YSCC Second-Team All Conference.

Rogers finished his regular season career at UMA with over 1,000 rebounds and broke the record for rebounds in a season. The 6'7 center finished the regular season with 441 boards, shattering the previous mark of 380 set by Moses Brathwaite in 2009-10. Rogers currently leads both USCAA Division I and II in rebounds per game with 15.8 and ranks second in scoring for UMA with 21.2 points per game.

Chesley joined both the 1,000 rebound and 2,000 point club in his senior campaign, becoming the UMA All-Time leading scorer in the process. The forward surpassed the previous record of 2,029 points previously set by Deon Cheers from 2006-2009. Chesley finished the regular season ranked second in the conference and fourth in the country in scoring at 23.4 points per game. 

On the women's side, Toth joined the 1,000 point club for her career during her senior season and ranked third in the conference in three-point percentage (34.8%) and also ranked second in the conference with assists at 4.7 per game. She finished the regular season averaging 11.8 points per game and also holds the record for three-pointers in a game at UMA, a mark she set early in the season with ten triples against the University of Maine at Machias.

Plummer once again led the Moose in both points and rebounds, averaging 14.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. She ranked fifth in the conference in scoring and second in rebounds while also sitting in third place with blocks at 1.4 per game.

LaFountain had an outstanding freshman campaign for the Moose, and finished just behind Plummer in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.1 points per game and 10 rebounds per contest. She had a career-game in the home finale for UMA, scoring 37 points.
