Rogers sets new record for rebounds in a season

RUTLAND, Vt. - Senior Brandon Rogers set a new record for rebounds in a season Saturday afternoon, grabbing a remarkable 24 boards in a 90-86 loss to the College of Saint Joseph's of Vermont. The 6'8 center currently has 398 rebounds on the season, shattering the former record of 380 set by Moses Brathwaite in 2009-10, with at least three games remaining.

Rogers (Turlock, Calif.) has been a force underneath the hoop since his arrival at UMA in his sophomore season, netting 358 rebounds as a junior and leading the nation in rebounding . He and teammate Keith Chesley joined the 1,000 rebound club last week, becoming only the second and third players in UMA history to join that club.

In his sophomore campaign Rogers averaged 12.3 rebounds per game, and upped that to 13.8 in his junior season. As a senior the center is blowing away both USCAA Division I and II with his 15.3 rebounds per game, almost two full rebounds ahead of the next closest player in Division II and close to four boards ahead of the leading rebounder for USCAA Division I.

Rogers tied his career record for rebounds in a game last Thursday when he netted 28 rebounds and a career-best 38 points in a critical win over the University of Maine at Machias.

Rogers, along with senior Chesley and seniors from the women's team will play their final home contest on Tuesday night when the team hosts NHTI at the Augusta Civic Center for a 5:30 p.m. showdown. The men play the early game and the seniors will be honored in between the two games.
