Balanced attack leads men's basketball to win over Rivier

NORTH FIELD, Vt. - Four players were in double-digits, led by 29 points from senior Keith Chesley as the University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team battled for a huge 85-79, non-conference victory over NCAA Division III Rivier University Sunday afternoon at the Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich University.

Chesley (Clinton, Maine) was 10-14 from the floor, including 3-4 from behind the arc while also dishing out five assists and netting three steals. The Moose (5-7) shared the ball very well as a team, notching 19 assists on the afternoon, led by six from senior Brandon Rogers (Turlock, Calif.), who also dumped in 19 points and was the only UMA player in double-digits on the boards, with 12 for the game.

UMA only scored 14 points in the paint on the night, to 30 points in the key for Rivier (1-8), but the Moose took advantage of solid shooting from the perimeter to help seal the victory. Freshman Dallas Murray (Newport, R.I.) was 4-6 from three-point range and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe to score 16 points, while fellow freshman Noah Thompson (Yuma, Ariz.) was 3-7 on threes and scored 10 points. As a team, the Moose shot 46.7% from the field and 46.2% from long range.

UMA also took advantage of some sloppy play on the part of Rivier, scoring 19 points on 11 Raider turnovers for the night.

The Moose return to action Monday night when both the men's and women's team play at the Augusta Civic Center against Unity College in Yankee Small College Conference action.
