Men’s Basketball falls in overtime to NHTI

CONCORD, N.H. - After coming out on the winning side of a dramatic finish in Monday night's win, the University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team found itself on the other side of the coin Tuesday night as the Moose fell to NHTI, 91-89 on a last second shot in overtime in Yankee Small College Conference action.

In a game that involved an incredible seven ties and 17 lead changes, freshman Noah Thompson (Yuma, Ariz.) hit a layup with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 77 all. The Moose (3-6, 2-3 YSCC)  held strong on defense to force the extra period, but Dayvon Russell of NHTI (7-4, 5-1 YSCC) hit a jumper with five seconds to go in over-time, giving NHTI the win.

Thompson was the high scorer for the Moose with 23 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor, including a five triples. Senior Keith Chesley (Clinton, Maine) scored 20 points, while Brandon Rogers (Turlock, Calif.) scored 19 points and grabbed 12 boards. Freshman Dallas Murray dished out four assists and notched two steals to go along with his 10 points. 

Mustafa Koroma of NHTI scored a game-high 30 points while Russel kicked in 22 points. The Moose shot 47.8 percent from the field on the night, including 48.1% from the free throw line, but committed 25 turnovers in the loss. NHTI held the edge in rebounds with 39 to UMA's 31.

UMA returns to action on Saturday when the team travels to Norwich University in Vermont for the Norwich Tournament.
