Four basketball players named Academic All Americans

AUGUSTA, Maine – Four University of Maine at Augusta men's and women's basketball players were named as United States Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic All-Americans Wednesday morning during the national basketball championships in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Sophomores Keith Chesley (Clinton, Maine), and Allyssa Marson (Augusta, Maine), and seniors Alyssa Betts (Manchester, Maine), and Katie Gayne (Augusta, Maine) each represented the Moose on the Academic All American team. Athletes receiving the honor must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Chesley had an outstanding season for the Moose, both on an off the course. After competing for the UMA golf team in the fall, he jumped right onto the hard court where he led the Yankee Small College Conference in rebounding  (9.8 pg) and ranked sixth nationally.

Marson finished her first campaign with the Moose averaging 16.4 points per game and ranked third in the conference in steals (3.3pg). Betts received the honor for the second time this academic year, having also been named for soccer. Gayne has also received the award multiple times during both her soccer and basketball careers at UMA.
