MacDowell ranked first among YSCC golfers

VASSELBORO, Maine - First-year golfer Lee MacDowell finished second in Saturday's United States Collegiate Athletic Association Qualifier at Natanis Golf Course, finishing two strokes ahead of Southern Maine Community College's Grayson Waterman, who won the tournament with a 76. 

MacDowell has won two of his first three collegiate matches this season and currently leads all YSCC golfers with a 79 average, putting him just ahead of Kyle Gagne of Great Bay Community College. MacDowell was named YSCC Athlete of the Week on September 10th. 

Paul Smith College posted a team score of 369 to win their second team match of the season at the qualifier, while UMA finished third with a team score of 409. Keith Chesley finished second for UMA, with a score of 93 while Brandon Rogers and Dillon Fletcher rounded out the scoring on the day. 

Grayson was tied with MacDowell after the first nine, but Grayson posted a 37 on the back-nine to edge out MacDowell (78) by two strokes.  Great Bay Community College's Kyle Gagne took third, shooting an 81 on the par 72 course. MacDowell currently leads the Yankee Small College Conference with an average of 81 through his first three rounds. Gagne ranks second (83.7) and Waterman is sitting in third place (86) in the overall standings.

Paul Smith's was led by Jared McCallister, who shot a 40 on the back-nine to score an 83, which put him in fourth place overall. NHTI took second with a 379, led by Spencer Coronis who finished with an 89). Host UMA finished third while Great Bay took fourth and Paul Smith's second team finished fifth.

The teams will return to conference action at the SMCC Open on Saturday, October 3rd at Sable Oaks Golf Course in South Portland, Maine.
