YSCC Golf Championship Results

VASSALBORO, Maine – The University of Maine at Augusta golf team hosted the 2011 Yankee Small College Conference Championship over the weekend, as seven teams battled the elements during Saturday's competition. The Moose finished fifth on a wet and rainy morning, improving from last year's sixth place finish. Two UMA golfers finished in the top ten for head coach Tristan Starbird's team.
UMA captain Phil Fernald (Vassalboro, Maine) improved from last year's tournament, finishing tied for eighth place with a score of 86, a one stroke improvement on last season. Matt Tarrio (Vassalboro, Maine), golfing out of the number two spot for UMA, finished in first place for the Moose and sixth overall with an 85.

Both Fernald and Tarrio finished in the top ten in every match they competed in during the 2011 season. Their success on the course this season has qualified them for participation in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Tournament to be held at Penn State University this weekend, October 10th and 11th.

The Moose also walked away with the 2011 Sportsmanship Award for the tournament, an honor voted on by participating schools.
