Lady SeaWolves Record OT Win At UMA

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team extended its win streak to five with a 57-54 overtime result at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Trailing six points to begin the fourth quarter, SMCC put together its best period of the evening going for 20 points on 53.8 percent shooting to force more basketball. The overtime featured field goals from first-year guards Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) and Kyla Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) to secure a 2-0 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) start.

Greenleaf tallied a career-high 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. Richards and sophomore captain Bailey Whitney (Norway, Maine) each scored 11 and combined for 16 rebounds; sophomore center Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) went for nine points, nine rebounds, and three blocks in 34 minutes of action.

SMCC climbs to 5-1 overall, 2-0 YSCC; UMA stands 3-2 overall, 3-1 YSCC.

Head Coach Katie Stannard stated, "This is always one of those road battles we circle on the calendar. Once again, we dug ourselves out in the fourth quarter and saw another first-year shine! Kyla was exceptional late in the game giving us that boost we needed off the bench. We look forward to a busy stretch before the break!"

Next, the Lady SeaWolves will begin a three-game home stand and continue conference play with the Lynx from NHTI on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Tip-off inside the Hutchinson Union Building is set for 8 p.m.
