Sisters commit to women's basketball team

AUGUSTA, Maine—Coming off a recent trip to the USCAA Nationals, Women’s Basketball Coach Jennifer Laney and the Lady Moose are looking ahead to next year. Sisters Kylie and Krystin Kemp (Monmouth, ME) are Coach Laney’s first two commits for the 2014-2015 season. The University of Maine at Augusta women’s basketball team is coming off a 15-12 season and received the seventh seed in the National Tournament.

The Kemp sisters led Monmouth to a 14-9 record. Both sisters intend to major in Liberal Studies at UMA. Coach Laney on the additions: "We are thrilled to welcome both Kylie and Krystin to our Lady Moose family.  They have come to us from an incredible Monmouth program that has many of the same core values as the Lady Moose.  Kylie brings so much speed and intensity to the court.  She is able to get in the paint and be a fierce competitor on the boards.  Krystin has a great presence in the post and brings a high basketball IQ."

Kylie on joining the Lady Moose: “I chose UMA because it is so close to home and I really like the feel of the campus. I will really enjoy the opportunity to continue to play basketball here at UMA!”  Kylie is a multiple sport athlete, lettering in soccer, basketball, and softball. Kylie was selected to the 2014 McDonalds All-Star team for her efforts this past season.

Kristin on the commit: “I chose UMA because I am interested in photography and it is so close to home.  I love the small campus atmosphere.”  Kristin also was a multi-sport athlete in high school lettering in soccer, basketball, and softball.

Coach Laney and the Lady Moose are looking ahead to improve their team for next season. The women’s basketball program at UMA is turning into a powerhouse among the Yankee Small College Conference. UMA, along with Central Maine Community College, are the only two YSCC programs that made it to the USCAA Nationals in Uniontown, Pennsylvania this year.
