Lady Moose Sign Washburn Standout

AUGUSTA, Maine--Carmen Bragg from Washburn, Maine has signed a letter of intent to join the Lady Moose for the 2014-2015 season. This talented guard not only led Washburn High School to a dominating 24-2 record, she also cut down the nets at this years Class D state championship game. At 5’4” Bragg uses her speed and quickness to take advantage of her opponents. She can solidify herself on both ends of the court, making her a major impact player. Carmen intends to major in Biology her at UMA.

Carmen was elected to the McDonalds 2014 All-Star team and the Aroostook County All-Star team. Carmen served as a five-sport athlete in high school, participating in basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and cross-country. The stats speak for themselves; scoring over 1,000 points, Carmen will come in as an immediate impact player for the Moose.

“Carmen plays with such amazing composure no matter how high the stakes," Head Coach Jennifer Laney said.  “Each game that I attended, she filled a different role according to what her team needed from her.  She is an extremely versatile player and will be a wonderful addition to this Lady Moose team.

Carmen has a plethora of awards throughout her high school career. The most remarkable item on her resume is that Bragg is a four time state champ.  Bragg served as a captain for three years, received Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Coach’s Award as a sophomore, and was Co-MVP as a junior. Bragg was also the 2011 free throw champion and competed in the state shoot-off at the McDonald's All-Star weekend for the third time during her four-year career. Carmen received the Most Valuable Player award of the Maine state basketball tournament her freshman and junior years. She was additionally voted for the all-tournament team/honorable mentions during her four-year stay.

"UMA is a condensed and friendly campus that will enable me to get the most out of my learning experience and create close relationships with others,” said Carmen on choosing UMA.  “It has many student opportunities, like playing basketball, which is something I wasn't ready to give up and, thankfully, don't have to!"
