AUGUSTA, ME-- Entering his 4th season at the University of Maine at Augusta, Coach Tristan Starbird and his Moose are primed for another shot at the YSCC championship title. After finishing runner-up in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons and with four returning players, the team has set its sights on the #1 spot in the conference.
The senior captain and leader of the UMA Golf Team, Jake Roddy will be returning this year for his last season at UMA. Jake has enjoyed two straight years as an academic All-American and is poised for a great finale to his college golf career. “Jake is the catalyst for the team,” boasts Head Coach Tristan Starbird. “His consistency has allowed for some other guys to step up with strong tournament finishes like Keith Ross and Connor Morey.”
Senior Keith Ross who Coach Starbird refers to as the “entrepreneur of the team who demonstrates nothing but class on and off the course”, returns to the moose roster this season. Last season, Ross was extremely consistent and looks to continue helping the moose to victory this season.
The Moose also welcome back another senior, Josh Smith. Josh is a Military Veteran who returned to school after serving our country. Josh has been extremely successful in the classroom earning three consecutive Academic All-American Honors. “Josh has been a joy to be around the last three seasons,” says Coach Starbird. “The team looks to him to have his best season yet!”
Rounding out the Moose squad is sophomore, Connor Morey. Morey lead the Moose team last season with an average score of (82.6). He is currently studying and training to be a pilot.
With this veteran squad, and potential new comers, Coach Tristan Starbird has high expectations of the 2014 season. The leadership and commitment of these student-athletes is the driving force behind the team.
