Seawolves edge out victory against Moose 77-74

AUGUSTA, ME—The UMA Men’s basketball team took on 8-1 Southern Maine Community College for the first time this season at the Augusta Civic Center.  The Seawolves opened the game with a 6-0 run until Jordan Holmes drained his first 3 of the night leading to a back and forth throughout the first half of play. Thomas Papagianopoulos’s jumper late in the first half contributed to the Moose’s momentum as well as a 3 –pointer from Dustin Simpson-Bragg to close out the first half with the Moose trailing 29-30.

The Moose opened the second half with production across the board taking control; leading 39-32. The Moose continued to control the second half demonstrating the power of teamwork and bringing their lead by 11 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

The Seawolves continued to chip away at the Moose lead, trailing by 1 point with 42 seconds left in the game. With 2 seconds left on the clock the Moose ran out of time to answer a Seawolves 3 pointer with 10 seconds remaining. The Seawolves narrowly held onto the win with the final score ending 77-74 in their favor.

Simpson- Bragg finished with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Jordon Holmes connected for 23 points, while sophomore co-captain, Noah Thompson chipped in 17 points. Thomas Papagianopoulos lead the bench with 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively.

The Moose continue their home game stretch on Tuesday, November 29th, when they take on the Pine Manor College at 7PM.  Go Moose!
