How did you end up at UMA?

I began attending UMA through the Rockland campus (UROCK), in the fall of 2009.  Having graduated high school eight years prior, getting adjusted to life in academia was no easy task; however, the wonderful faculty at UROCK made the adjustment much easier through their loving care and guidance.  Because of their guidance and support, I was able to earn an associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, and will soon graduate with my bachelor's in Biology. These two degrees as well as playing for the UMA Men's Basketball team from 2011 to 2015 are my greatest accomplishments since I have been at UMA.

What do you like about UMA?

What I like about UMA is that the classes are small and personable and the faculty genuinely care for your education. The professors will do anything they can to help you succeed. It's a wonderful atmosphere to learn and grow—both as a student and as a person.

Tell us some interesting things about yourself that others may not know.

I have many houseplants and hope to someday have my own art studio in which I create pieces of art from scrap metal and glass.  I brush my teeth with my left hand, but I'm right-handed otherwise.  I really like to dance and sing, but not at the same time. I collect old books and when I build a house I want it to have a library.  My favorite color is burnt orange.

Who is your mentor and why?

Some of the countless mentors I've had in my life include my mother, who has given me the support I've needed all my life in order to achieve my goals, as well as teachers like Susan Baker, Margaret Naas, Garrett Veil, Cynthia Seefahrt, Steven Moro, and UROCK center director Deborah Meehan have provided me with the tools needed to flourish in school, as well as in life. I owe everything to these lovely people.
