Moose top Rams

Moose top Rams

AUGUSTA, ME—Thursday, December 8th marked the last home game of the fall semester for the UMA men’s basketball team.  The Augusta Civic Center was buzzing with anticipation for a big conference match up between UMA and the Unity College Rams.

It was the Rams who came out gunning in the first half edging ahead of the Moose by 16 points with 9 minutes to go in the first half before Dustin Simpson-Bragg found his way to the paint for 12 straight points followed up by a three from Nate Martin to bring the Moose back within 1 point.  A back and forth battle continued to land Unity on top by 2 at the half; 46-44.

The Moose came out strong out of the locker room attacking the paint.  Alex LaFountain made his presence felt early on and earned himself three trips to the line.  Unity fought back going on a run of their own, collecting 14 points within a 2 minute span.  The Moose found their answer capitalizing off of their inside out game, chipping away at Unity’s lead.  The Moose would go on to tie the game at the 2 minute mark with a pair of free throws made by Alex LaFountain.  Jordon Holmes sealed the win for the Moose with a back to back pair of free throws.

Simpson- Bragg finished with a game high 26 points and 15 rebounds.  Jordon Holmes had 19 points and Dustin West pitched in 18.

The Moose advance to 2-4 in the conference.  The Moose will be back in action the weekend of January 7th at the NHTI Holiday Classic.
