Moose Sail Past Herons

Moose Sail Past Herons

PORTSMOUTH, NH-- The UMA men’s basketball team traveled to Portsmouth, NH on Tuesday to take on the Great Bay Community College Herons.  This matchup between the two Yankee Small College Conference teams promised to be electrifying as both teams have similar styles of play; capitalizing on speed and athleticism.  After the first ten minutes, it was clear both teams had the fire and the crowd would be on the edge of their seats throughout the full forty minutes.

It was the Moose who took the early lead and brought it into halftime, leading 59-46 over the Herons.  Sharp shooting from both Noah Thompson and Jordon Holmes, helped to capture this lead early on.  However, the Herons made a run of their own coming out of halftime.  Tyler White and Marcus Penna led the charge for Great Bay and challenged the Moose.

Head Coach Jim Ford looked to big man, Alex LaFountain to shut down Great Bay’s inside game and challenge the Herons as they attacked the rim.  The Moose capitalized on this momentum and went on a run to lead them to a 103-91 win over the Herons.  Co-captain, Noah Thompson, finished with 31 points and 7 assists while Jordon Holmes pitched in 21 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore, Dustin Simpson-Bragg netted 23 points and 12 rebounds; his second consecutive double-double.

Great Bay’s Tyler White finished with 26 points, connecting for 6 shots from beyond the arc.

The Moose move on to a 1-1 conference record and will host Central Maine Community College on Thursday, November 10th at the Augusta Civic Center.
