AUGUSTA, ME – The University of Maine at Augusta men’s and women’s basketball teams helped give back to the community on Tuesday afternoon, scrimmaging with the Windsor Middle School basketball teams in support of both the Windsor athletic programs and for Parker Power, which is a fundraiser to help the family of Parker St. Onge, a third grader battling leukemia.

The Lady Moose played their scrimmage with socks on their hands, adding an interesting twist to the otherwise traditional basketball game.  The UMA men played a regular scrimmage against the middle school boys’ varsity team.

Windsor native Jessica St. Amand was the one who set the event up for UMA, saying that, “Giving back to the community where I grew up means so much to me.  UMA has given me several opportunities to show what our team can offer in giving back."

Lady Moose head coach Jennifer Laney said that "It is a great feeling to see what an impact our student-athletes can make in their local community."

After the games, each Moose player was available to take pictures with all of the students involved in the event.  "Giving back to the community is a high priority here at UMA,” says Brandon Rogers.  “Playing at Windsor Elementary School was a great opportunity to meet such welcoming people that provided a pleasant environment"
