AUGUSTA, ME—It may have only been the second time in the Augusta Civic Center for the Lady Moose this season, but they seemed right at home getting out to a great start against conference rival Southern Maine Community College.  The Lady Moose jumped off to an early 12-4 lead against the Seawolves.  SMCC answered back with inside strength of Alicia Hoyt closing the gap 12-10 before the Moose charged the lead back up to eight.   Significant post action for SMCC troubled the Moose near the close of the first half.  The Moose, however, kept the lead at halftime 28-27 over the Seawolves.

The fifteen-minute break left the Moose a little icy coming out allowing SMCC to score a quick seven points and UMA found themselves down by six.  The fierce competitive nature of the Moose allowed them match SMCC with several lead changes up until the final few seconds.  A surge in offensive rebounding by freshman Kylie Kemp (Monmouth, ME) allowed the Moose to capitalize on a few second chance opportunities, while freshman Morgan Harrington (Richmond, ME) added strength and defensive fierceness in the paint.  A charge taken by Monique Moore (Jefferson, ME) and UMA’s intensity on both ends of the court in the last 10 minutes of regulation made a huge impact for their momentum.

Co-captain Jamie Plummer (Richmond, ME) was able to draw the foul with less than a minute in regulation putting the Moose up by two; however, SMCC’s Jamie Poland had an answer of her own able to convert a three-point play giving SMCC the edge of UMA with 31 seconds left in the game.  UMA’s Jamie Plummer again stepped up with a huge jump shot with 20 seconds left securing a one-point lead.  UMA’s team defense was able to get a stop and Plummer drew a foul on the other end sending her to the line with 3.7 seconds left.  After Plummer hit both, the Moose would hold the three point line and go on to win the game 64-61.

Plummer lead the Moose with 31 points and 18 rebounds while Freshman Kylie Kemp added 11 points and eight rebounds (five of which were offensive rebounds).  Carmen Bragg (Washburn ME) added seven points while both Jessica St. Amand (Windsor, ME) and Kori Coro (Jackman, ME) boasted six points.

The Moose are on break for Thanksgiving and will be back in action on December 2nd at Unity College for their third conference game of the season.
