AUGUSTA, Maine – Madison Card has committed to the University of Maine at Augusta women's basketball team for the fall of 2016.

Family is a word that you frequently hear throughout the athletic programs here at UMA.  We take pride in creating an atmosphere where the student-athletes feel like they are home.  In this case, it was Cards’ own family who first urged her to join the Moose family.  “I learned of UMA through my sister, Morgan Card, who studies Elementary Education and also plays on the basketball team” noted Card.  “Morgan has always said great things about UMA and I really wanted to be part of the Moose Family!” 

As a recent graduate of Ellsworth High School, she was a standout student-athlete both in the classroom and on the court.  She made varsity her freshman year and never looked back.  Card not only graduated with honors, she also was a captain of her basketball team, was selected to First Team All-Conference, and named Player of the Week, she was also chosen to play on the McDonald’s All Star team in her senior year.  At UMA, she will major in Business Administration and look to make an immediate impact for the Moose on the court.

“Madison brings an incredible sense of urgency and a versatile talent to the Moose,” boasts Coach Jennifer Laney.  “Her court vision, perimeter play, as well as her ability to attack the rim will be a great benefit to the team.”

Card looks forward to joining her new teammates, noting: “It is a great group of girls who are very passionate about the game of basketball, as I am.  I also like how welcoming the group of girls are because I think the most important thing about basketball is to always be united as one whole.”
